A UNIQUE CITY WITH RENAISSANCE WALLS
Lucca is an intimate small Tuscan town protected by an amazing wall and full of marvels. An independent Republic that never gave up to the Florentine domain, it flourished during the centuries mainly because of its banking activities and the trade in silk. In a small squared area, you will discover and see an outstanding number of Palaces and marvels while learn about the historical facts of this old city.

HALF DAY WALKING TOUR

Discover the city surrounded by a 16th century wall that is perfectly conserved and accessible. Your local tour guide will meet at an established location and you will visit the splendid Cathedral of San Martino and walk through the ancient Fillungo Roman street all the way down to the old Amphitheater. The tour will continue with a walk on the Wall and panoramic views of the city and landscape surrounding it.

Main attractions in Lucca:

  • Mura di Lucca – Historic walls built to protect the city, now used as foot & bicycle paths with expansive vistas.
  • Guinigi Tower – Brick tower from 14th century; climb 230 steps to its oak-topped summit for mountain & city views.
  • Duomo di San Martino – 11th-century place of worship with a square bell tower, carved medieval crucifix & treasury museum.
  • Palazzo Ducale di Lucca – Large, 15th-century palace-turned-events-venue, with many statues & a central court.
  • Piazza dell’Anfiteatro – Oval plaza on site of Roman amphitheater, ringed by medieval houses, now home to cafes & a market.
  • Museo Puccini – The Puccini Museum is a must-see for any fan of opera or Italian culture. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the life and work of one of the world’s greatest composers.
