When it comes to artisans and the “Hand Made” concept, Florence is a city like no other. It is the place where you have the highest number of skilled artisans offering you unique products using techniques and secrets that are centuries old. On a recent CNN travel special, two out of twenty exclusive worldwide artisans were located in Florence: Stefano Bemer (hand made shoes) and Lorenzo Villoresi (fragrances and perfumes).

Start your day by meeting your personal tour guide and plan the day ahead. Your guide will introduce the historical facts behind the artisan tradition in Florence. This tour is a full day tour as we believe it is the minimum time needed to understand and experience fully the skills of those talented people. Short version, 3 hours half day tour, available upon request.

After inquiring with us and planning your day, this walking tour* and artisans visit will let you enter special workshops and experience them fully. Although some artisans are very protective of their trade, they are also proud to show you their workshops and how they “do it”, and maybe reveal some of their secrets. Those artisans are highly specialized in:

  • Leather and accessories.
  • Silk and other fabrics.
  • Gold, silver and metal works.
  • Marble and semi precious stones setting.
  • Perfumes and fragrances (special experience).
  • Shoes and footwear (special visit).
  • Artistic papers, prints and engravings.
  • Restoration, antiquities and frames.
  • Musical instruments.

After experiencing the workshops, you are free to inquire about their trade and products and acquire what is for sale, your tour guide will be glad to facilitate that and assist you.

Before Milan, it is was all in Florence…
It all started in Florence on February 25th 1951, when Conte Giorgini organized the first fashion show for an international audience at the Torrigiani Gardens. From then on, Italian fashion has conquered the world, and Florence is still, with Milan and Rome, one of Italy’s fashion hubs.

It is not just about shopping or artisans workshops, it is about the history of Florentine textile industry and fashion, from the times of the Guilds (Silk and Wool), seven centuries ago, to our present time. Florence made its fortune from trading, mainly in fabrics, and the city was an major center for merchants from all over the world. Close to Florence, the city of Prato is still a major production hub, specialized in high quality fabrics and garments.

Florence is currently the headquarter and design & production center for many designers and ateliers: Salvatore Ferragamo, Emilio Pucci, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci and many others. Also, many designers, such as Valentino, had their international debuts in Florence, where their shows at Pitti Palace drew huge international success.

Florence is the place where a major fashion trade event is held each year: The Pitti Event, divided into Pitti Uomo (men), Pitti Bimbo (kids) and Pitti Filati (fabrics).

Meet your fashion expert and plan the day ahead. Learn about the historical fact and the evolution of the textile production in Florence and the birth of the fashion industry.
The tour includes visits to Florence renowned fashion Maisons such as Ferragamo & Gucci museums and be-spoke to visit to other locations upon request such as the Antico Setificio Fiorentino (high end silk) and the Museo del Tessuto in Prato (one of Europe’s greatest textile and fabrics museums).

Tour can vary from half day, 4 hours tour, to full day tour, where you can visit most of the places listed above and experience the Florentine fashion scene fully.

Private tour for small groups.
4 to 8 Hours with 1 hour lunch break.
